OBSERVATIONS

Background

Part of the requirements for the Basic of Secondary Education class was at least ten hours of classroom field observations. I was lucky enough to be put into a high school probability and statistics course. So, once a week, for an hour, I would sit in the back of the classroom and observe multiple different areas. Not only would I watch the teacher but I would pay attention to the lesson, students, and any outside factor such as school events. I did this for nearly four months and was exposed to new situations and experiences.

When observing the classroom I took notes about what the class was to be doing, how the work was categorized, what the teacher was doing, what the students were doing, and how engaged they were in the classroom activity. After each observation I had to reflect on how technology was used in the lesson, what Common Core standards were met, what Indiana State standards were met, how I might have taught differently, and two takeaways I learned from each observation.
